Sigi

Page history last edited by Scottie Patrick 14 years, 4 months ago

Sigi was said to be the son of Odin, or Sigtyr (victory god).  The word sig is Norse for victory, and is the root of most names in the Volsung line.  He became an outlaw after murdering a thrall for having out-hunted him, and “he could no longer remain at the home with his father” (Byock 35).  But Odin guided Sigi to some warships and he started raiding (viking) until he was able to seize a kingdom to rule.  In the end, Sigi was attacked and killed with his men by his wife’s brothers.  His son, Rerir, avenged his death.
