Rerir

Rerir enters the saga slaying his uncles and taking back his father’s estate and seizing his uncles’ estate.  “He became an even more influential man than his father” (Byock 36).  He married an unnamed woman and, after having difficulty conceiving, requested the help of the goddess Frigg in becoming pregnant.  Eating from an apple sent by Hljod, a gift of Odin, the woman became pregnant, but Rerir died before the child was born.  The woman did not give birth for six years, and the child finally had to be cut from her.  He was given the name Volsung.
