Hjordis is the second wife of Sigmund and the mother of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer.  When Sigmund comes to ask for her marriage, she is approached by two suitors, so her father lets her decide which she will marry.  She chose Sigmund, for, although he is much older, his is more famous and powerful.  During the battle between King Lyngvi and King Sigmund, Hjordis is taken into the forest to hide.  After Lyngvi kills Sigmund, he could not find her in the castle and left without her.  Hjordis was found by King Alf and he later married her
